The Halba massacre

Rami has posted some videos from the Halba massacre that happened in North Lebanon. If you are sensitive, please beware of the videos as they have very violent contents. This is no doubt the worst event that happened during the last Lebanese crisis…. Instead of handing these criminals to justice, the opposition and pro government parties are blaming each other for this massacre… Don’t they realize that they are both responsible????

A small demonstration was held today in Hamra where panels with the names of the victims of this massacre were displayed on the walls. The demonstrators were asking for the killers to be brought for justice.

I am really wondering how our fellow leaders in Qatar are deciding on the future of Lebanon while these criminals are wandering loose in the streets… Not taking action against these dogs only pushes them to consider killing as a humane act and nothing prevents them from doing it again. PEOPLE! WAKE UP FOR GOD’S SAKE!!!!!!!!

Solution at the horizon

It seemed i was wrong underestimating the efforts of the Arab League… or wasn’t I???? Ministers representing the Arab League visited Lebanon yesterday to discuss the situation with the major parties and i guess they have done magic… They proposed the following solution which all parties decided to accept so far:

The government withdraws its decision regarding the communication and security network of Hizbullah located at the airport… decision that led to last week’s violence.
The opposition withdraws its protestors from Beirut’s downtown.
All Lebanese parties meet in few days in Qatar to form a unity governement and elect a new president for Lebanon…

Well it seems the history is repeating itself… In 1990, the Taef agreement which resulted from the gathering of all Lebanese parties in Saudi Arabia has put end to the 15 year civil war.

However i don’t believe the next meeting in Qatar will reach to solid decisions as long as the blood thirsty leaders are the ones who are gonna decide on the faith of Lebanon… These leaders have shown their animal instincts and imposing the rule of the jungle in 6 days of battles. Anyway I really hope i am wrong… because every Lebanese is fed up with this crisis.

…. Let’s wait and see!!!!

Day 5: Mount Lebanon on fire, Lebanese Army takes control

Finally things seem to be going positively: the army is taking control of most of Beirut and the pro government parties are handing their weapons.

Siniora corrected himself after Ali Hassan from Amal party proved him wrong when the former said the ministry counsil hadn’t taken decision in its last meeting.

Tensions in Tripoli were still ongoing. The most noticeable event on this day was the clashes that began to happen in Mount Lebanon between PSP militants and the democratic party (headed by Arslan) militants. The PSP has shown that it is ready to fight with all its strenghts and fears nothing especially after it had executed 2 Hezbollah militants it had kidnapped the day before. The house of Ghazi AlAridi (PSP) was hit by a rocket. Nevertheless the clashes stopped before 7 pm, then Jumblatt appeared on TV claiming he is ready to cooperate with Arslan to hand in his weapons to the army and keep the calm in the mountains

Finally at 7 pm, most parties have accepted the armies request to stop all violence.

The Arab foreign ministers have gathered…. Well…. as usual nothing much expected as outcome.

Yalla Inshallah things are getting better now….

Day 4: “Hezbollah Coup”

It’s Saturday already, violation began on Wednesday….

Some highlights:

- Future TV and all major media belonging to Hariri family have become non-operational after militants from the opposition have burnt or occupied their major premises. However we can notice that the governement is using Al Arabiya news TV channel, which Hariri has major shares in, to broadcast their views… “The Hezbollah Coup” is the major title they use to define the events happening since May 7th. Unfortunately, this channel is an elite in promoting sectarianism. For instance, they refrain from using the phrase “opposition militants” but instead use “Shia’a militants” in order to reflect to the Arab viewers that the Shia’a are causing the perturbations in Lebanon. This is not surprising since Al Arabiya is known to have ties with the wahabiz.

- Last night, heavy clashes happened in Aley (region majorly druze) between Jumblatt and Hezbollah militants. Hezbollah was trying to take over offices belonging to the Progressive Socialist party (PSP). Total of 9 casualties (7 from Hezbollah, and 2 from PSP). However 3 Hezbollah militants were kidnapped and 2 executed later on…..

- 5 civilians were killed by a gunman during a funeral in Corniche el Mazraa for a member of the Future Movement. This gunman (from Al Saba7 family) was caught by the army and justified his actions saying he was taking revenge after some men (presumably from the Future movement) attacked one of his properties 7 days ago (before the violation have even began). He wasn’t identified to belong to any of the political parties.

- Airport road is still closed.

- Around 4 pm, Siniora had a conference insisting the government will not give up its principles and will resist any attempts to bring them down.

Siniora gave a solution for the crisis: The army will decide on the required investigation regarding the issue of the lieutenant that has ties with Hezbollah whose questioning by the government caused the begining of the clashes. The Army replied saying it will keep the lieutenant in his position at the airport until its investigations progresses with the cooperation with Hezbollah. Siniora also insisting that once this decision applied, the situation gets back as peaceful as it was before May 7th.

- The opposition was ok with the decision and asked its militants to leave the streets of Beirut…. OUFFF finally. However the opposition insisted it will continue with its protests peacefully until it gets what it wants which is :
1- Stop the Prime Minister Fouad al-Siniora order to dismantle the surveillance network at Runway 17 of Beirut Airport which the latter claim it was “illegal and unconstitutional” and which caused the events we are witnessing at the moment.
2- to have all parties sit and decide on a solution for electing a president which the pro government parties refuse to do.

- At night, tensions in Tripoli were increasing gradually specially in Minia.

On May 7th 2008, Lebanon witnessed events that reminded everyone of the events that happened on April 13th 1975 which launched Lebanon’s civil war. Clashes between militants from the opposition parties and the pro government parties are similar to the images we have seen 20 years ago: killing with no mercy….

Tenzakar w la ten3ad (get reminded but don’t repeat) is the slogan launched each April 13th of every year after the end of the civil war in order to learn from the civil war to prevent it from happening again. It seems there are some who chant it without really willing it….. They haven’t learnt as it appears even though the lords of war are the same but with different coallitions this time. In addition, new faces from new parties have appeared that were involved crucially in the violation so far.

Why all this hatred??? How did it all happen?? Ohhhhhhh please noooo…. don’t ask me to reapeat the same things you hear every day on the news….
